Finding Peace Amidst the Chaos

“For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

As I sit here on day 8 of Covid-19 Lockdown in South Africa, I do so with a sense of peace in my heart. This is very different to how I felt in the week leading up to lockdown, when fear and anxiety were very present in my life, particularly the fear of being exposed to Covid-19.

Lockdown offered me a sense of relief in many ways but watching the news can be depressing. As I watch the markets plummeting, the Rand weakening, jobs being lost, lives being lost, my mind has flashed on occasions to my future and what that may look like. I was quickly reminded there is absolutely nothing we can do, other than what we are all currently doing in following legislature and being wise. This huge pandemic seems quite out of control globally, but it is at times like these that we should be reminded that God is in control and that nothing is too big for Him.  He is our Alpha and Omega; He holds the whole world in His hands. When we start to focus on God instead of on the chaos that surrounds us, a peace transcends that is beyond comprehension, beyond the chaos.

  • I know my God has this!

  • I know He has my future and yours in His hands!

  • I know that whatever happens He will provide!

  • I know that He is in control!

Prayer: "Thank you Father God for being our Jehovah Jireh, our provider. Thank you that your grace is sufficient for us and that during these difficult times we can lean on you and know that you are in control. We pray for your wisdom and your guidance each day; we pray for your protection for our families, our nation and globally. We pray that your peace will be evident in our lives.  In Jesus name, Amen"
